I live at around 6° north latitude. On one part of the year the sun is at the south sky, another part at the north sky. Here where I live, on April 4th and September 8th every year the sun is directly overhead. If you put a metre ruler vertically on those days where I am, the length of the shadow casted by the ruler is... nil!!! This is the sun is at 90° altitude, and cot 90° = 0.

REALLY GOOD vid, WELL DONE! - best illustration PLUS practical proof I've seen in my search. I had bought into the story that the effect is only accidentally true on small scale (which had demoralised my knowledge's usefulness). Now logic of supposed theory is restored to workableness (otherwise known as simple integrity = whole and complete) :-) By the way - that demoralisation is a seriously negative force on a mind that is curious to find knowedge that is useful AND logically coherent. (See the second area I'm asking you for help on further below. Hence I'd really appreciate some light in THAT area too). However ( :-) )- just one question on your coreolis explanation: - When you threw the ball, it was similar to the explanation others give for the wind deflection of low and high pressure systems, BUT... - when the wind sets off toward the centre of the low pressure, it is NOT like a flung ball! And THAT was giving me an itch of "false explanation" syndrome reaction when I saw other people illustrating it based on "initial direction of throw, where the target has now moved away from where it was" . In the case of the wind, is not like the ball (nor like an artillery shell fired a great distance!). It is being DRAWN/PUSHED toward the centre which -even if it shifts, remains as the place it is being DRAWN/PULLED toward. This is the fault in the "vector" diagram approach where the guys treat the initial direction as then fixed like the launched ball - but it's not. Coming to your FANTASTIC top of the world looking down, with a big circle from pole to equator diagram (geniusly better than any other I've seen), SOMETHING itched about the North to South part AFTER you had followed it with the South to North part; ...-my mind went back to the N=>S bit, and went "there's something not quite the same there". Looking again and again, what i see is that however small your distance from the North pole is, it is STILL moving EAST (from our bird's eye viiew [If you draw a line on the (obviously unmoving screen) from north pole of earth south to equator, then run your animation of the movement of the disc, you will see that the whole disc -including your red line, moves eastward]) when you launch it, not West; this latter is opposite to the direction of your circle's overall rotation, whereas your S=>N side is ALSO moving EAST when it starts, which is the same direction as that of rotation of your circle. In short, I think you have given slightly different explanations for north water spot ("kind of standing start", "APPEARS to be...") vs south water spot ("already moving east faster"). Do you see what I mean, and can you clarify that? (One possible area (in a fluid, which DOES have some cohesion, as does air simply through pressure to fill the space if neighbouring molecules move) is that the because of the cohesion, the faster moving side over-rides/pushes/pulls the slower moving side (with its weaker 'eastward' velocity...?) and 'wins' the battle, thus causing rotation that effectively forces the northern spot westward....?) A further aspect you might be able to help with is the wind direction they come up with in weather systems. If you look at a pressure map, it shows pressure contours (isobars, where pressure is the same along the line like height on a contour). The weather guys keep showing wind as flowing EXACTLY along the pressure contour i.e. it never crosses out of the same pressure (EXCEPT for "a SLIGHT effect caused by friction with ground ONLY at near-ground wind level - where it gradually drifts out of its pressure zone into another...). I just cannot buy it that coreolis effect completely negates the pull/push of pressure in the absence of ground friction, and PURELY "because of Coreolis effect". Can you shed any light on this? PLEASE!! It is doing my head in!

No need to artificially influence the water drainage at the Equator to witness a significant difference. A LARGER basin and plug hole could have been used in this experiment. I’m also Australian and I’ve done the TEST right on the Equator in Indonesia. However, if you use a larger plug hole than used in this video, the movement is significant and undeniable. Without any interference or influence on the stilled water, the drainage was even and direct and straight down the plug hole exactly on the Equator, and significantly drained in opposite directions just 10 meters each side of the Equator. Next time, use a bigger basin and larger plug hole.

According to Kepler's theory - the distance of the earth to the sun is not the same during winter and summer. Why are you in a perfect circle? How could the sun be farther away during aphelion and be summer time? And be closer to the sun during perihelion -and be winter? Not to mention the sun's size remain the same in the sky? Heliocentrism doesn't make any sense, at all. Our globe is stationary. The sun moves!
